Fires seem to be a common topic in our local newspapers lately with several home fires in Mansfield and local area’s. Chances are with all the local media coverage you are more aware of fire prevention and what you can do at home to ensure your families safety. But what about while your at work? Couldn’t there be a fire at your workplace just the same as you could have a fire at home?
To be ready for an evacuation and stay safe in the case of a fire, here are a few tips to remember:
-
Familiarize yourself with your worksite’s emergency evacuation plan.
-
Test doors for heat before opening them by placing the back of your hand against the door to avoid burning your palm and fingers.
-
Go directly to the nearest fire- and smoke-free stairwell, recognizing that in some circumstances the only available exit route may contain smoke or fire.
-
If you are trapped inside, go to a room with an outside window and call for help, if possible.
