A big worry for many homeowners…and renters…when the weather gets this cold is frozen pipes. Just imagine, you and your family are all curled up and cozy in bed when you are startled awake by the sound of running water. Before you find yourself in the situation, there are a few things you can do to help prevent the freezing and then bursting of your pipes.
- Wrap pipes in heat tape or thermostatically-controlled heat cables.
- Open cabinet doors to expose pipes to warm air.
- Disconnect any outdoor hoses and faucets and cut off those valves completely
- Trickle a little water out of your faucets periodically to keep water moving within the pipes.
