Many people would choose vision as their most valued sense. Could you imagine life without it? Wow…hard to imagine isn’t it? There are numerous conditions that could diminish or even lead to complete vision loss. One of those conditions is Glaucoma – an eye disease that causes loss of sight by damaging a part of the eye called the optic nerve. But Glaucoma does not have to lead to vision loss. Early detection and treatment are vital to slow the progression of this disease.
There is no cure so yearly preventative eye exams are crucial!! If you fall into any of the below categories, you need to be extra cautious:
  • People over age 40 who have not had regular eye exams
  • Anyone over the age of 60
  • People with family histories of glaucoma
  • Those with abnormally high intraocular pressure
  • People with African descent, especially those over the age of 40
  • Diabetics
  • Those with myopia (nearsightedness)
  • People who have undergone long-term steroid or cortisone use
  • People with previous eye injuries
Many vision and even some health insurance plans include a yearly vision exam. Make sure to take advantage of that benefit. After all, your sight is well worth it!
