Anyone who has lived in Ohio for a while lives by the motto “if you don’t like the weather, wait a minute, it will change.” Keeping that in mind, it never hurts to start preparing early for the upcoming winter season. Many of us rely heavily on our vehicles and depend on the to work when we need them. With cooler weather, there are a few things that need to be addressed:
  • Antifreeze levels – ensure they are sufficient to avoid freezing.
  • Battery and ignition system should be in top condition, and battery terminals should be clean.
  • Brakes – check for wear and fluid levels
  • Exhaust system – check for leaks and crimped pipes, and repair or replace as necessary.
  • Fuel and air filters – replace filters and keep water out of the system by using additives and maintaining a full tank of gas. A full tank will keep the fuel lines from freezing
  • Heater and defroster – ensure they work properly.
  • Lights and flashing hazard lights – check to ensure they work properly
  • Oil – check for level and weight.
  • Thermostat – ensure it works properly
  • Windshield wiper equipment – repair or replace anything that is not working properly and maintain proper washer fluid level.
  • Install good winter tires.
Taking a few extra steps now could save you when winter weather hits.
